Solid Waste Management
Solid Waste Management
The SWM project strives for maximum waste recovery through composting, recycling, and reuse, and aims at zero waste to be disposed at dump-yards and landfills. The long-term objective is thus to reduce the environmental degradation caused by solid waste. By processing and converting the organic waste to vermin compost and the inorganic waste segregated into recyclable and non-recyclable waste we are able to:
- Minimize waste that needs to be disposed in centralized landfills
- Benefit the soil by using organic compost instead of chemical fertilizers
- Divert biodegradable waste from the main waste stream
- Enhance environmental awareness in the community
- Create employment in the community
- Ensures sustainability of the project at the local level
- Maintain pure surface and ground water, healthy soils, and clean air
- Empowerment of women, as well as individuals from backward & most backward communities
- Create opportunities for the start-up of micro-enterprises in recycling
